The spring has sprung...

.......... and here in Umbria the grass is greening and the flowers and buds are once again starting. As an introductory offer to all of our friends that we haven't yet met, we would like to give the opportunity to everyone who has an interest in the finer things of life to share our home with us for a few days. We are therefore offering a 50% discount on the accommodation in La Preghiera. To take advantage, telephone +44 207 060 0393 or +39 075 930 2428 or email us on info@lapreghiera.com, and we hope to have the pleasure of your company shortly here in Umbria.
And for our friends in the north of England, I understand that Ryanair will be opening a route from Liverpool to Pisa at the end of this month.

La Preghiera Blog 4 March 2005

Isn't it amazing how many internationally renowned films have been made and set in Italy, in particular in Tuscany and Umbria over the last twenty or thirty years. We have thought of "Travels with my Aunt" directed by George Cukor, with Maggie Smith and Alec McCowen, "Tea with Mussolini", with Judi Dench and Cher, set in San Gemignano, "Life is Beautiful" set in Arezzo with Roberto Benigni, "My House in Umbria", "Summer's Lease", "The Talented Mr Ripley" directed by Anthony Minghella and starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Damon, "The English Patient" with Ralph Fiennes, "Room with a View" memorably set in Florence, "Brother Sun, Sister Moon" and "The Name of the Rose" with Sean Connery... We look forward to hearing from you if you can think of any others and take a look at reelstreets.com our website about film locations used in films made in Great Britain from the 1920's to the 1980's.

New Excursion at La Preghiera

Piero della Francesca Trail

In the morning we depart La Preghiera and head for Monterchi to visit the Madonna del Parto, then on to Sansepolcro to see the Polittico della Misericordia and the Resurrezione. Passing through the delightful medieval hilltop town of Anghiari, we stop for lunch at a Trattoria at Tavernelle. Continuing on to Arezzo we enter the Basilica di San Francesco to see the Legend of the True Cross cycle of frescoes and then into the Cathedral to see Santa Maria Maddalena, returning to La Preghiera in time for aperitivi.
